The Former Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker, John Clark Dabwan
has said that his desire to see that the peace he worked to promote in
the state is retained was the reason he resigned from his position
earlier this month.
He said innocent souls had perished as a result of recurring violence
in the state and that he could not allow a repeat of such bloody
violence.
Dabwan, who made this known at a reception organized for him by
members of his constituency following his resignation, said: “I led the
House of Assembly diligently, honestly and with the fear of God and I
resigned in the interest of the state. I’ve driven the House to a
greater height. I did not commit any offence. I felt it is good for me
to resign for peace to prevail. Plateau State has passed through
political and religious turbulence and I do not want a repeat of that.
Enough of the bloodshed and enough of the rancour in the House.”
Dabwan recalled that in 2007, when he was elected into the State
House of Assembly under the platform of the defunct Action Congress of
Nigeria, ACN, he was the minority leader but in 2011, following his
defection to Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, members of the House
unanimously elected him as the Speaker.
He thanked his constituents for the support they gave him as their
representative in the House of Assembly and urged them to vote wisely
during the local government elections slated for December 21, 2013.
