A
social group known to be one of the civil right defense platform
recently in Ibadan, southwest Nigeria, again voiced out and maintained
its position on the undemocratic attack fetched on its members and
anti-oppressors against Nigerian people.
In
a press statement released and signed by its members; Salawu K.,
Anisere A., kehinde A., Orilonise I. A., George U., Olatoyan T.,
Ogunshowo L., Penu Z. K., Ogunleye A., Adenola B. S., Tobiloba F.,
Kazeem A. O., Babatunde Ayinde R., it was gathered that the group which
had been faced with so much difficulties in the country as a result of
harassment, intimidation within the communities and series arrest by the
police and security agents around the country, deem it fit to once
again speak up to express their feelings towards defending human rights
and agitating for freedom of choice to life for all citizen without
discrimination of any such, as it concerns the homoséxuality and
transgender saga in Nigeria.
Also,
the group claimed series of attack on its members and threat of arrest
from the Nigerian police. We regret the insensitivity of the country not
showing resourceful and meaningful leadership quality in Africa with a
commendable practices and respect to its citizenry. Everyone should have
the liberty to life and choice of living to enhance development and to
promote and acceptability by United Nations on universal declaration for
freedom expression and choice for all nationality and and the world at
large.
Mention
in the report was victimization of its members and leaders of the group
being declared wanted by the Police. Amongst many others was the case
of one Mr IO. Ibrahim, whom some months ago, his home and family- wife
and children, was attacked and raided by unidentified security agents,
thugs and still declared wanted by the police.
He
is currently living in abroad, with continuous struggling for the
emancipation of freedom for human rights and egalitarian societies
globally. Also discussed was the dastardly act perpetrated by group of
youths for molestation and intimidation of four Nigerians in Ekwe
village of Njaba LGA, Imo State. They were attacked, stripped naked and
paraded across the cities over accusation of indecency practices-
homoséxuality (Nigeria daily news, 16-01-2013 publication)
The
group also emphasized on inability of the Nigerian Government to
judiciously utilize the nation’s economic gains for the development of
the nation and unfairness and inequality in the distribution of national
resources. To worsen the situation in the country, is the perceived
disenfranchising and oppression channeled towards the human rights
groups and individuals who resist the pressure to be buy by the
so-called civilian dictators.
Nigeria
as it is currently being challenged with bad leadership induced
poverty, corruption, religious charlatanism, terrorism and restiveness,
unstable political system, dictatorial governance, lack of adequate
basic amenities etc. In spite of the Nigeria’s obvious wealth in crude
oil production and other natural resources, yet undergoing dramatic
economic deterioration, socio-political instability and decade social
amenities and infrastructural facilities.
Urging
the Nigeria government and the law makers in a purposeful argument and
in the interest of sustenance of true democracy to allow peace and unity
among its citizenry, with regards to freedom of expression and
association. To condemn the arbitrary arrest and detention of it members
and the so called gays and lesbians for a prosecution with 14years
imprisonment. The assault of the bloody execution taking place in the
north of Nigeria of stoning to death the innocent citizens must be
abated. This is to promoting fundamental human right and the civil right
of all to enable a conducive political environment for the people.
