A 35 Year Old Motorcycle Repairer Commits Suicide Over Wife’s Adultery

A 35-year-old motorcycle repairer, Kayode Onabamiro, has committed suicide over his wife’s alleged infidelity.

We gathered on Monday in Ijebu-Ode, southwest Nigeria that Onabamiro left a suicide note in which he said he killed himself because his wife was not faithful to him.

From the suicide note, it was learnt that the deceased also killed himself because of his huge debts as well as his inability to have savings.

Onabamiro, a father of four and a native of Isoyin in Ijebu-North East Local Government Area of the state, was said to have committed the act on Saturday night when his wife and children were not around.

We further learnt that the deceased, who resided at 122, Awokoya Street, Ijebu-Ode, before committing suicide, had sent his son to get him a loaf of bread.

It was also gathered that when the son returned, the deceased asked him to give him a pen and paper and thereafter sent the boy out again.

He was said to have locked the door against himself and committed suicide.

On the return of his wife, she was said to have tried to enter the house only to discover that the door was bolted from behind.

The wife, according to investigation, forced the door open and saw her husband’s body dangling from a rope on his neck.

It was at this point that the wife raised an alarm.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the family members of the deceased wanted to lynch the wife when they discovered in the suicide note that one of the reasons Onabamiro committed suicide was his wife’s alleged infidelity.

The eyewitness said the wife was able to escape and ran to Igbeba police station for protection.

It was also learnt that the wife, due to fear of being mobbed, refused to attend the burial rites of her husband on Sunday.

DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the incident in an interview.

Adejobi said the command would work on the suicide note left behind by the deceased to ascertain the cause of the incident.

The spokesman promised that the command would ensure that justice prevailed in the matter.
