Thirty five people, including nineteen church attendees who were
coming back from the service, died on Monday in a multiple accident on
the Potiskum-Maiduguri highway.
According to Yusuf Sani, spokesman of the Federal Road Safety
Commission in Yobe, the bodies of all the 19 members of Redeemed
Christian Church of God were burnt beyond recognition.
He attributed the tragedy to overspeeding and lamented that scores of
people lost their lives only in the recent two days in road accidents.
The main reasons for crashes, which unfortunately often occur on
poorly maintained Nigerian roads, are speeding, overloading and reckless
driving.
