This was disclosed by President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja yesterday during the commissioning of police equipment which formed part of the 2013 edition of the Police Week.

“As part of our plans to reposition the Nigeria Police Force, we must make sure that every state command has a helicopter to work with. At this period of security challenges, we must invest in air power to combat terrorism, armed robbery and other security issues,” he said.

“We have to provide what it takes to enhance police efficiency,” Jonathan said.
The president while decrying the poor maintenance culture in the country, charged the police to properly maintain all the properties in its care.

The equipments commissioned include: seven helicopters, 275 patrol vans and 17 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC).

Earlier in his opening speech, the Inspector General of Police Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, noted that the police week celebration was a global standard practice.
