A man arranged for his friend to attack him and his date with a knife – in a desperate bid to impress her.
But the stunt backfired after she vowed never to speak to him again.
Police were told that the couple were set upon by a man wielding a large knife as they took a spring stroll in a forest park in the US state of Arkansas.
While the woman ran off, 26 year-old Tyler Siegel manfully stayed behind to do battle with the assailant, suffering a cut to his wrist and chest in the struggle.
The would-be suitor had more dramatic ideas than a stroll in by a lake to impress his date

Officers in Jonesboro searched in vain for the alleged attacker – but in fact Siegel had asked a friend to attack them so he could impress the girl.
Siegel even inflicted the cuts on himself to make it look like he had been injured.
But to add insult to injury, it seems the cunning plan fell tragically short.
She told local media the whole experience was ‘very real’ – but did not once think the incident showed Siegel in a heroic light. She added she was no longer in contact with her would-be protector.
Siegel told police the incident ‘just really got out of hand very fast’.
The best thing he can say for the whole sorry experience is that he is not facing any charges.
