Oba accused of illegal detention, harassment

A traditional ruler, the Elegosi of Egosi Ile, Oba Daniel Dada has been accused of illegal arrest, detention, harassment and threats to the life of his subject.

A petition on this to the Kwara State Commissioner of Police against Oba Dada had come from a member of the Elegosi compound; Mr, Kunle Ayodele
. In the petition by his lawyer, Abiodun Ayodele Dada, Ayodele is asking for the sum of N5million as compensation and general damages caused to his business by the Oba.

Ayodele’s counsel had described him as a gentle man and law abiding citizen who has been residing in the Oba’s family compound for over 10 years.

Due to this trust and good neighborliness, the Oba leased another room in his residence to Ayodele for the expansion of his business.

The development, which he claimed, did not go down well with certain persons.

He added that one Johnson Amuda Yusuf and his mother; Taiye Amuda were among those who harassed and assaulted Ayodele on trumped up allegations that he stole cement blocks to build on his new land.

The lawyer added that when the Oba got there, he ordered that the shop be demolished, while the blocks be removed to his palace.

He said on advise of the Civil Defence Corps, Johnson and his mother ,Taiye Amuda were arraigned before an Omu Aran Upper Area Court but the Oba and his chiefs ordered the complainant to withdraw the case within a given deadline.

On the expiration date, the petitioner said Oba Daniel Dada strangely reported the complainant to the police on trumped up charges of selling Indian hemp for which he and his wife were arrested.

Not done yet, the Oba and his chiefs were alleged to have threatened his life by placing charms and articles for rituals in front of his house.
