A
21-year-old sales manager, Arashi Lateef, has been arraigned before an
Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N10m.
Lateef, who was arraigned on two counts
of stealing, was said to have defrauded his employers, Geopetrol Service
Station, “systematically” for a period of eight months.
The police said the defendant diverted
proceeds from the sales of petroleum products into his account from
October 2012 to May 2013.
While his accomplice escaped after the fraud was detected, Lateef was apprehended and handed over to the police.
The charge read in part, “That you,
Arashi Lateef, and others now at large on the same date, time and place
in the aforesaid Magisterial District, while in the employment of
Geopetrol Service Limited as sales manager did steal the sum of
N10,000,000.00(Ten million naira only) being proceed for the sale of
petroleum products, property of one Adeniyi Akewusola, of Geopetrol
Service Limited.”
The prosecutor, Mr. Frank Inah, said the
defendant by his conduct had violated Sections 409, 285(7) of the
Criminal Law of Lagos State.
Lateef said he was not guilty of the charges and accepted to be tried at the Magistrate’s Court.
Inah announced the presence of the Investigating Police Officer and the complainant.
The counsel for the defendant urged the court to grant Lateef bail in the most liberal terms.
The magistrate, Ms S.O Solebo, who stood
in for the presiding magistrate, Mrs. A.A. Demi-Ajayi, granted the
defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties each in like
sum.
The matter was adjourned till September 30.
