A
deputy speaker of Parliament in Britain has been charged with several
counts of séxual assault as well as rapé, the authorities said Tuesday.
The conservative politician Nigel Evans on Tuesday resigned as deputy speaker of the House of Commons following the allegations.
The
Crown Prosecution Service said enough evidence had been gathered to
prosecute Nigel Evans, a member of Prime Minister David Cameron’s
Conservative Party, for eight offenses.
Mr. Evans, 55, who was arrested twice earlier this year, has denied any wrongdoing.
He
was charged with two counts of indecent assault, five counts of séxual
assault and one count of rapé, the prosecution said. He is accused of
assaults dating from 2002 to 2013 and involving seven male victims
