2 Survives in 166 Passenger Boat Mishap in Calabar

 


A wooden boat carrying 166 people from Southeastern Nigeria capsized about 40 nautical miles off the coast, with only two known survivors, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said on Tuesday.
The boat left on Friday from the remote town of Oron, in Akwa Ibom state and was heading across the Gulf of Guinea to Gabon, in Central Africa to Gabon. Nine bodies have so far been recovered while the two survivours have ben taken to the University Teaching Hospital Calabar.

David Akate, head of NEMA in Cross River, confirmed the incident.
