Following
the denial of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) of
allegations of failure to remit the sum of N6 trillion into the
Consolidated Revenue Fund, the House of Representatives has fired back
at the oil corporation, describing their actions as irresponsible.
The
House had detailed its committee on Finance to investigate the revenue
generating agencies of government over allegation of unremitted funds
into the treasury, while the committee claimed that NNPC failed to remit
the sum of N6 trillion from 2009 till 2012. But the NNPC had reportedly
dismissed the claim of the lawmakers, noting that they were only
pursuing a hidden agenda and as well out to embarrass the corporation.
Meanwhile,
Chairman of the committee, Honourable Abdulmumuni Jibrin, while
briefing newsmen, reiterated the earlier claim that the corporation had
shortchanged Nigerians by not remitting about N6 trillion due to
government. According to him, “our biggest challenge is the NNPC. It has
never remitted one kobo to the consolidated revenue fund over the
years… If this is the case, since pipeline vandalism started, NNPC has
not computed the loss, especially the quantity, the value in monetary
terms and forwarded same to government,” he said.
