No excuse for driving vehicles without number plates – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has said that there is no excuse for anyone to drive vehicles without proper identification number plates.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Mr. Nseobong Akpabio, who stated this on the telephone, described the act as condemnable and against the law.
He said that states, through their boards of internal revenue, were expected to place an order for the quantity of number plates to be produced for them. He said that production was done mainly on orders placed.

According to Akpabio, virtually every state of the federation has made a requisition for the number plates and production done accordingly.
Our correspondence had observed in recent weeks that there had been an increase in the number of cars plying Lagos highways without number plates.
The general reason such persons have been giving for the act is that the new number plates are not available.

Asked why Lagos State appeared not to have received its slot, Akpabio said that he could not speak for Lagos State.

He said, “I cannot speak for Lagos State, please get in touch with Lagos State officials. All I can tell you is that FRSC is not involved in the sale of number plates but there are three plants in Lagos, Awka and Gwagwalada in charge of producing the number plates for states. In fact, the one in Lagos is the biggest.
“Once orders are placed, production is done within 24 hours. We have the list of states that have already got theirs on our website. We encourage people not to go about with their vehicles without number plates or be ready to face the consequence.”
