The
Mercedes-Benz C-Class saloon is one of the very few four-doors that
offer as much driving satisfaction as a proper sportscar. So it’s always
heartening to see that a new version is on the horizon. And one sure
is, as a new set of spy shots have popped up in our inbox showing more
details of the next generation C-Class saloon than ever before.
Likely
to go on sale sometime next year, the prototype seen here points to
Stuttgart having kept the previous model’s proportions while sharpening
the lines overall. Although disguised, the grille seems to have been
influenced by the one seen in the new E-Class, with sleeker looking
headlights.
While
the V6 will remain, a turbocharged 1.8-litre engine is likely to make
its way into the entry-level model, as is a hybrid powertrain. But we
have our sights sets on the extreme AMG tuned version with a twin-turbo
V8 under its bonnet.
Although
it remains to be seen if AMG will go with the current 5.5-litre lump or
the 4.0-litre unit that’s rumoured to be in the pipeline. [GN]
